So…what’s with the Pirate Queen title?
Long long ago in a galaxy far far away…wait, that’s the wrong genre. Ahem…I must be the worst pirate you’ve ever heard of…but at least you’ve heard of me! Le sigh.
In all seriousness, I’ve never had a nickname before outside of Pirate Queen. I’m not really sure where he picked it up, but my late husband, Pete Reed, took to calling me that sometime in 2017. We were sort of pirates of the humanitarian world, I suppose, but the good kind, gathering a wild coalition of rogue medics to save lives, rather than plunder, throughout the Battle for Mosul. In the following years I let my adventurous flag fly and continued work as a photojournalist throughout the Middle East, wildland firefighter in Idaho, ER nurse during COVID, and eventually training for a career in the Air Force that required me to carry grown men on my back. So Pirate Queen just stuck.
Now, I’d like to bring some of that swashbuckling energy to y’all. I’ve loved running since I was old enough to run from my parents and climb on the garage roof, and that scrambling has been replaced by a love of scrambling through the mountains. I am a constant learner and lover of life, and would like to share some of that love of the trail through coaching, with a few other adventurous souls.
